Submarine Patrol Halfway Night and Rabbit Hash
Submarine news has been in a slow cycle for the last few weeks. So in a desperate move to create some more material for TSR readers, I found some old pictures from my first Boat the USS Ulysses. S. Grant.
I have several Half Way Night photos, in which some should never be posted. (May be I can fade out the faces to protect the innocent) But for this story, for a Half Way Night Skit, the Grant Gold Missile Division created a Junk Band inspired by my previous off crew visit to Rabbit Hash Kentucky.
My surname Ryle has a Long history with not only Rabbit Hash but the Northern Kentucky area across the river from Cincinnati Ohio. So while visiting some relatives in the area, I had to go down to Rabbit Hash and visit a little piece of family history.
Rabbit Hash garnered some national fame on a couple occasions when it elected a Dog for Mayor. It is also quite famous for its General Store which was established in 1831 on the banks of the Ohio River. The Store has been flooded several times over the years in which a interesting solution was found to preserve the store by driving iron rods into the ground, and fastening more rods and hooks to the bottom of the store which made some kind of anchor system that allowed the store to float upwards and remain in place during flooding.
So here are a few photos to share from Halfway night festivities some time in 1990 were we attempt to honor the town of Rabbit Hash and entertain our shipmates. If memory serves right the band was not all to bad. But I guess some may remember different.

Just a little bit of history and fun of what was one of the final years of Submarine Cold War Deterrence and a small general store and community in Rabbit Hash Kentucky.
